Responsibilities May Include:
- Assist with computerized database activities including updating and verifying local, state and national human service-related agencies and programs.
- Acquire knowledge and understanding of community resources and state related programs.
- Provide Information and Referral (I&R), brief telephone counseling and crisis intervention assistance to callers.
- Perform various duties such as computer data entry, assisting with bulk mailings, filing, etc.
- Actively participate in team efforts such as attending staff meetings, various committee meetings, educational opportunities, etc.
Basic Qualifications:
- Available for flexible weekday hours (some evening and weekend hours may be available), non-judgmental attitude, good verbal and written skills, maturity, good telephone manners and basic computer skills.

- Provide an opportunity to learn about all public and private agencies and resources and their function in the human service field.
Professional Growth
- Active involvement with Great Rivers 2-1-1/Wisconsin Public Health I&R Hotline operations.
- Learn the provision of I&R including client interviewing, active listening and problem-solving skills as well as utilizing a computer search program focusing on human service agencies.
- Develop helping skills in responding to callers' needs; including supportive listening and crisis intervention skills.
- Participate in a professional team setting by attending staff meetings.
- Develop and/or refine computer skills.
Program Specifics:
The internship/volunteer program is set up to accommodate the following:
- Students who require a formal internship program to graduate and can commit to 30-40 hours per week.
- Individuals with a current status of junior or senior level in college, and who would not be obtaining credit hours.
- Individuals who have obtained a college degree in one of the Human Service fields (Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Community Health).
For individual noted under numbers 2 and 3 above, a minimal commitment of 12 hours per week for a semester or four months, with a total of 200 service hours is required.
